				The instrument brands below are recommended on the basis of reliability, quality and serviceability.  Brands other than these should be discussed thoroughly with the director.  Buyer Beware! Generally department store and warehouse club instruments are not of high enough quality to last and present problems with poor sound quality and tuning.  I have tested many department store brands personally and have found them of poor quality in both workmanship and tone production. On top of that, most music stores will refuse to repair these instruments because they often break during repair due to poor quality.  Also, family-owned instruments, particularly woodwinds, may need to be taken to a shop for repair and adjustments.  Please keep this in mind and plan ahead to have family instrument ready for the first day of band class with instruments. The accessories listed are the bare necessities.  Please do not omit any of them.
